At the end of August, I proudly announced on the blog the facilitation of the first partnership between Titu Maiorescu University (TMU) and the WordPress Foundation. The feedback from the community and the academic environment was outstanding, confirming a real need to bring the open-source movement into our lecture halls.

Today, we are stepping from signed agreements to actual implementation. I am thrilled to announce that the official launch of the WP Credits program will take place on October 14, 2026, through a dedicated event organized at the TMU Faculty of Informatics.

What to expect at the launch event?

Over the past few months, I have been working closely to synchronize the efforts between the WordPress Foundation and TMU leadership to organize this very first meeting. Our goal is for students to fully grasp the opportunity ahead of them before they even write their first line of code.

On October 14, I will be in front of the students to discuss the practical aspects of:

  • The structure of the WP Credits program: How the sessions will unfold, the technical requirements, and how we will evaluate each student’s progress.
  • Integration into the global ecosystem: How asynchronous communication, peer review processes, and the WordPress Core ticketing system actually work.
  • The free year on WP.com (Limited spots): How students can activate this benefit obtained through the WP Education program. Since we only have 50 allocated licenses, we will also discuss how these will be distributed.
  • Building a portfolio: How their open-source contributions turn into a public, verifiable CV that will accelerate their IT career immediately after graduation.

The Next Chapter in IT Education

As the initiator and Project Coordinator, my goal for this launch isn’t just to present a curriculum, but to spark an idea. I want students to realize that their work won’t just sit on a local faculty server—it will run on the platform that powers over 40% of the internet.

I can’t wait to meet the first cohort of WP Credits students and officially kick off this journey.
